Long-time judge, Glenn Baker had this to say about the entrants in this year’s David Awards;

“This year’s entries represent an extremely diverse range of business sectors across many product and service categories. The one common thread has been the business owner’s desire to seize an opportunity and run with it. This is despite the odds and the somewhat rollercoaster business environment that everyone faced through the various Covid lockdowns.”

At Keetrax, we’ve certainly experienced ‘business owners seizing opportunities’ as we’ve witnessed ecommerce businesses bouncing back with a vengeance and many brick and mortar businesses entering the ecommerce world for the first time.  We’re proud of what we and our customers have achieved over the last year.

What are the David Awards?

“The David Awards celebrate ordinary small Kiwi businesses doing extraordinary things.” – The David Awards.

The Awards were launched in 2008 by Heather Douglas.  Heather was the 2005 recipient of the Vero Excellence in Business Support Award for her advocacy of and support for businesses at the smaller end of the business scale. With the David Awards she sought to create an Awards that enabled smaller, newer and funkier businesses to shine; by removing barriers to entry, like entry forms that took far too long for busy small business owners to complete – whilst maintaining a minimally-exclusive criteria and a tailored but rigorous judging process.

And why ‘David’…?

David was the young shepherd who won the ‘against all odds’, David and Goliath battle.  His story is a celebration of the underdog. His ammunition for this battle?  Five river stones which represent; Courage, Tenacity, Ingenuity, Excellence and Authenticity.

David Awards recipients are considered to embody these same five entrepreneurial qualities.

Entry numbers in this year’s David Awards were up 25% on the best-ever year and the response to the People’s Choice Awards was even greater.  Awards founder Heather Baker said;

“The pandemic can wreak havoc all it wants, but these businesses will not be stopped!”

We couldn’t agree more Heather!  Congratulations to all of the nominees in the 2021 David Awards.
